Loveless review - from Russia, without love

Andrey Zvyagintsev's visceral new film casts an unforgiving eye over his homeland today

Intrigued as you were by the translation of the title, I consulted an extremely erudite Russian writer, who told me this: "Нелюбовь" is a fake love, a simulacrum of a genuine feeling, the extreme grade of alienation from oneself or of one own self. In the film, the connotation of the unlove (non-love) is of course broader than intimate relationships, it implies some total loss of substance in anything.” May I say, your review is the deepest I have read? Congratulations!
