Three years after it was, as they say, "let go" by ITV, The South Bank Show, with Melvyn Bragg at the helm, is set to return on Sky Arts in 2012. The idea has been in the wind since Sky Arts revived The South Bank Show Awards in January this year, but the news was formally announced yesterday (30 November). Port Talbot’s staging of The Passion with Michael Sheen won the highest accolade at the Theatre Management Association Awards yesterday, which honour the best of work touring Britain beyond London during the 2010-11 season.The adventurous Welsh community production, a National Theatre Wales/Wild Works collaboration put on over three days last Eastertide, won the Best Director gong for Sheen and co-director Bill Mitchell. When West Side Story won 10 Academy Awards, that was back in a Hollywood era during which movie musicals regularly garnered such acclaim. The winners of the 2011 Foster's Edinburgh Comedy Awards have been announced. The main award, worth £10,000, went to Adam Riches for his anarchic and intensely physical show Bring Me the Head of Adam Riches; the best newcomer award, worth £5,000, went to Humphrey Ker for Dymack Watson: Nazi Smasher!, a tall tale woven from his grandfather's real-life wartime exploits as an intelligence officer sent behind enemy lines.
The special panel award, also worth £5,000, went to The Wrestling, a one-off event during which 20 comics engaged in wrestling bouts with professional wrestlers.

Death means learning to say "I love you" in the woozy world of Ghost, the 1990 film that has become a breathlessly vapid musical sure to keep hen parties happy for some while to come (especially now that Dirty Dancing has closed and Flashdance barely got going).
