Art Space to open in London's King's Cross

Submitted by Russ Coffey on Mon, 02/07/2012 - 13:01

It may not quite be guerrilla art, but a new, temporary, and apparently edgy art venue is going to open its doors for the first time a week tomorrow (July 10) by the Regent’s Canal in London’s rapidly changing King’s Cross. Called “The Filling Station”, it’s a striking piece of architecture, remodelled by architects Carmody Groarke on the site of an abandoned petrol station.

Designed to be in place for two years, a six month schedule of works, the Vauxhall Ampera Season, has already been announced including a week long installation by moving image artist, Max Hattler, involving a film projected onto a moving screen of water. The space also includes a small restaurant and bar. Illuminated by night, and designed to make full use of the sun and shadows by day, the architects are hoping that it will soon take on landmark status.
