Later... with Jools Holland: in the studio

Does the BBC's flagship rock show still have a role as it starts its 36th series?

Conor O'Brien, aka Villagers: the Irishman's intense focus silenced the studioAndre Csillag

Welcome to the grown-up rock mothership. I've seen bands play in TV studios plenty of times over the years, but walking into the Later... With Jools Holland recording at BBC Television Centre for the first time, as I did last night, is something else. Studios generally have a disappointing feeling of smallness, or of looking behind the curtain to reveal artifice, but this genuinely was like stepping into the TV screen: the circle of bands and punters exactly as you see it when the camera spins around in the show's intro.

I really hope Jools will invite Lifehouse to appear on Later. They are touring the UK very soon and really are a truly talented American Pop/Rock band.

great write up, and good insight into the floor. twas a fine read, cheers

Just wishing that a Scottish band called Admiral Fallow appear on Later soon - they have just been to SXSW festival and the Americans seem to have loved them !

Dear Jools, Love the show and the huge variety of artists you showcase. I think it would be great if you had someone like Joe McElderry on your show. I recently heard some acoustic stuff he did with guitarist Ross Martin on youtube and it was wonderful - showed what a great singing talent he really is. Such a pity he's been eaten up and spat out by the x-factor machine. Would be a shame if he disappeared into the ether. Best wishes, Deborah Taylor
